  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup Cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Can substitute with onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust as per taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper Adjust as per taste
  • 1 large Egg Use a flax egg for vegan option
  • 1 cup Milk Plant-based milk is a suitable alternative
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs Optional for extra crunch

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, whisk the egg and milk, then combine with dry ingredients.
  3. Peel and slice the onions into 1/4-inch rings. Soak in cold water for 30 minutes for added crispiness (optional).
  4. Remove the onions, shake off excess water, and dip in the batter, then optional breadcrumbs.
  5. Fry coated rings in batches for 2-3 minutes until golden and crisp. Don't overcrowd the oil.
  6. Drain on paper towels and sprinkle with salt while hot.
  7. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
