Ingredients

For the Base
  • 2 cups Fresh Blueberries Frozen can be used if fresh aren't available.
  • 1/2 cup Fresh Lemon Juice Bottled may alter flavor.
For Mixing
  • 4 cups Cold Water No substitutions necessary.
  • 1 cup Sugar Consider using honey or agave nectar.

Equipment

  • small saucepan
  • Fine-Mesh Strainer
  • Large pitcher

Method

Steps to Prepare
  1. In a small saucepan, combine fresh blueberries and lemon juice over medium heat. Stir occasionally as the mixture heats up, allowing it to gently simmer for about 7 minutes.
  2. Once the blueberries have popped, remove the saucepan from heat. Carefully pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a measuring cup, using the back of a spoon to press down gently on the solids.
  3. Transfer the strained blueberry juice into a large pitcher.
  4. Add cold water and sugar to the pitcher with the blueberry juice. Stir vigorously until the sugar has completely dissolved.
  5. Once well mixed, place the pitcher in the refrigerator to chill for at least 30 minutes.
  6. When you’re ready to serve, grab some ice and pour the chilled blueberry lemonade into glasses. Garnish with fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, or a few whole blueberries.
