- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of self-rising flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt until well combined.
- Cut cold butter and shortening into small cubes and mix with dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour in 3/4 cup of cold buttermilk and gently stir until the dough begins to come together.
- Transfer dough onto a floured surface and gently pat it into a circle about 1-inch thick.
- Use a floured biscuit cutter to cut out biscuits and place them close together on the prepared baking sheet.
