Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin pan with cupcake liners.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the cake mix and instant pudding mix.
  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs, sour cream, amaretto, milk, and vanilla extract until combined. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients and melted butter.
  4. Scoop the batter into prepared liners, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes.
  5. Prepare the frosting by beating softened butter until creamy. Add shortening, vanilla, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, amaretto, and milk until smooth.
  6. Core the cooled cupcakes and fill with cherry pie filling.
  7. Frost each cupcake with the chocolate buttercream and store in an airtight container.
